Most modern day Karhade Brahmins live in Maharashtra and Karnataka, though a significant population exists in Madhya Pradesh. A southern branch of the Karhade Brahmins settled around the Kasargod region of the Malabar coast and they are called the Karada Brahmins and share their traditions with Kerala Brahmins and the Brahmins of Dakshina Kannada.

The Karhade are worshippers of Mother Goddess. The Goddess Mahalakshmi, however, is not worshipped for five years after marriage. In the Navratri festival, Lalita Panchami and Durgashtami are two important days. The day of Anant Chaturdashi is also important as on that day Anant worship is carried out. It is a practice that supposedly originated with this community that was later adopted by the Chitpavans. Some other festivals, such as, Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra and Diwali are also celebrated.

Rituals and Ceremonies  

Each community ,each family and each domain has their own set of Rules to follow and there is nothing like a common rule in any book. Even if anything is available they are not authenticated.

Philosophy and Traditions

Sandhyavandhana is a nithya karmanushtana. which means that every bhramin who has been initiated into bhrammobadesa, should do it without fail. Its like taking bath, having our food etc. All it takes 10 minutes to perform sandhyavandhana total 30 minutes is sandhyavandhana, madhyanika and evening sandhyavandhana including chanting GAYATHRI japa.

Religion 

The Karhada community is not subdivided into many sects. All Karhade, with the exception of a very few Vaishnavites, are Rigvedis of the Smarta sect. The highest authority on religious and social matters is that of Sankara.

Festivals

Slokas and Mantras 

The Gayatri chanting part is the central part of the Sandhyavandanam and many volumes can be written on this alone. Gayatri is a most sacred and mysterious mantra that can activate twenty four spots of the human body. Look at this picture where the individual sounds of the gayatri are marked on the body of the sadhak. The working of gayatri is very subtle and it was said that a Brahmin need not do any sadhna if he does gayatri.

Food and Reciepes 

Every word of this was said by ambedhkar.He says that earlier all Hindus ate beef and meat. Then brahmins turned vegetarians first and stopped eating all meat.They made cow a holy animal and this made non-brahmin hindus to stop eating beef.People who continued to eat beef became chandalas and untouchables because they commited the worst sacrileage in Hinduism, eating beef.

Jokes/Humour

A fire alarm rang at 4 pm when almost all the shift employees are in the office(approx 5000). As usual the entire office was evacuated within 3 mins and every employee gathered outside the office. 10 mins passed....5 more mins passed.....another 5mins..... Then came the announcement from the Security Officer "Dear Employees, I am announcing this with melting heart that for many of you this will be a last evacuation drill. Due to the recession, we are going to lay off almost 50% of the employees. While moving in if your ID card does not work, you are among those who are laid off from work and your belongings will be couriered to you tomorrow. We have followed this approach as we didn't want to fill the email box with lay off mails and good bye mails and also to avoid fight within the office..Hope you have nice career ahead.
